The Cubs have agreed in principle on a one-year contract with outfielder Reed Johnson, according to a league source. "I think I'm at home here with the Cubs," Johnson said. "I talked to (manager) Dale Sveum for an hour. This is a very smart guy, who I think we'll all enjoy playing for. He's a baseball guy. He understands the little things, as far as winning on a daily basis. "I'm just happy coming back to a great organization and a great city, where I've grown to be comfortable." Johnson hit .309 in 111 games in 2011. He credited hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo with his resurgence at the plate.

The Rockies have agreed to a one-year contract with infielder Casey Blake. Blake, 38, appeared in just 63 games for the Dodgers last season (.252, four homers, 26 RBIs) because of injuries -- a back problem, an elbow infection and a neck nerve issue that led to surgery. The contract calls for a non-guaranteed base salary of $2 million, with another $1 million available in performance bonuses.
